During 2007 Vinge acted as advisors within 85 business dealings which led to an accumulated value of SEK 211 billion. Furthermore, Johan Winnerblad, partner at Vinge Stockholm, was ranked one out of four of the most active M&A lawyers in Europe.

This information is included in the exploration company Merger Market’s annual report. The report state which Nordic legal advisors carried out the largest transactions within the field of mergers and acquisitions during 2007.

2007 proved to be a good year for Vinge’s M&A teams. During the year Vinge acted as advisors in 85 business dealings which led to an accumulated value of SEK 211 billion. The acquired value of the transactions granted Vinge the top position – a clear improvement since 2006 when Vinge was ranked in the 20th position.

In addition to this Johan Winnerblad, partner at Vinge Stockholm, was ranked one out of four of the most active M&A lawyers in Europe. During 2007 he carried out thirteen transactions by comparison with the lawyers that were ranked ahead of him who in turn carried out fifteen and fourteen transactions.

- Naturally it is enjoyable that my successful year has been observed on an international level, says Johan Winnerblad and he continues;

- It is especially enjoyable that most transactions have occurred together with returning clients and that we also have gained new clients that have made Vinge their first hand choice as legal advisors.

- It is very satisfying to see that young partners are making a name for themselves among the most active M&A lawyers in Europe. Vinge has had an exceptional year including several transactions with focus on large and complex businesses that in turn have demanded cutting edge knowledge, availability and service, says Michael Wigge, Managing Partner Vinge Stockholm.

New statute prohibits unfair terms and conditions and practices in conjunction with the purchase of agricultural and food products

The so-called UTP Act prohibits buyers from using certain terms and conditions and practices against suppliers of agricultural and food products. The Swedish Competition Authority exercises supervision and can, among other things, carry out unannounced inspections and order individual to attend formal interviews. In conjunction with violations, sanctions such as injunctions subject to a default fine or a sanction fee of up to one per cent of the buyer’s annual turnover can be imposed. The UTP Act will enter into force on 1 November 2021 and will also be applicable to contracts which are entered into prior to this date.

European Commission provides sanctions compliance guidance

The European Commission has recently issued three opinions regarding the interpretation of asset freeze provisions in certain sanctions legislation pertaining to Central African Republic, Ukraine, Libya and Syria. The opinions are also of relevance for other sanctions regimes which provide for the same or similar restrictions. Therefore, their practical relevance goes far beyond the sanctions regimes in the context of which they were issued and they therefore provide for helpful guidance regarding the required thresholds for sanctions compliance generally.
