Anders Leissner, Martin Johansson, Isak Lefvert and Imola Szanto have authored the Swedish chapter in this year’s edition of Chambers Sanctions 2026: A Chambers Global Practice Guide.
The guide provides an up-to-date overview of the Swedish sanctions framework and covers, among other things, EU and UN sanctions, the roles of Swedish authorities, criminal liability, licensing and reporting requirements, trade and export restrictions, as well as compliance and sanctions circumvention.
The Swedish chapter also highlights several recent developments in the area, including the new Swedish Sanctions Act, a strengthened criminal enforcement framework and a more active enforcement environment in Sweden. It also addresses the continued development of EU sanctions packages against Russia and how Swedish companies are affected by an increasingly complex and fast-moving sanctions landscape. In addition, the chapter addresses topical events pertaining to the so called “shadow fleet”.
The chapter focuses on an area where regulatory requirements, international trade, export controls and risk management are becoming increasingly important for companies’ business operations and decision-making.
