Every newly employed lawyer goes through a number of development stages. During your annual development appraisal, you and your manager discuss the criteria for your role, and whether you should be promoted. The criteria are clearly formulated, and you will always know exactly what is expected of you and your development.
The first few years are very much about introduction. They are when you build a wide range of legal knowledge and a deeper understanding of all the different aspects of being a lawyer.
